Brea Selected as Sustainable Community Finalist

Becoming a Finalist

The U. S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) in a partnership with Siemens Corporation, selected Brea as a finalist for their annual Sustainable Community Awards program. Finalists represent outstanding local level efforts to achieve complementary economic, environmental and quality of life goals.

The City of Brea was nominated in the small community category during the fourth year of the national recognition program. The sustainability award is intended to recognize organizations that have taken tremendous steps to improve quality of life, be a steward of the environment and increase the ability to sustain a successful community for generations to come. Finalists were announced through U.S. Chamber headquarters in Washington D.C. A winner in each of three categories, small, medium, and large, are announced annually at the National Conference on Corporate Community Investment.

Additional Finalists

During the fourth nomination season entries from 40 states were received. A prestigious panel of five business, environmental, and community development experts selected the finalists from nearly 100 applicants. Other finalist cities in Brea's category were Burlington, Vermont and Greensburg, Kansas. Each has shown outstanding leadership through commitments to a comprehensive approach of integrating green practices with civic operations. Brea was honored to be included among the fine communities and outstanding projects represented from across the nation.
