The Fire Prevention Bureau, overseen by Fire Marshal Chris Nigg, adopts and enforces codes and ordinances relative to fire and life safety issues, reviews plans and conducts inspections of construction projects, coordinates annual life safety inspections of all existing commercial buildings, and enforces brush clearance/weed abatement throughout the City of Brea.

Chris Nigg, Division Chief - Administration & Fire Marshal
Division Chief Chris Nigg is a 20 year Fire Service and EMS professional. His career began working on an ambulance before becoming a career Firefighter for the San Bernardino City Fire Department in 2004. He came to the Fullerton Fire Department as a Captain in 2015 and promoted to Battalion Chief in 2017, effectively becoming a part of the shared Fullerton & Brea Fire Command Staff. In 2018, Chief Nigg was promoted to Division Chief of Logistics and Support Services, before transitioning to Administration and Fire Marshal in 2020. Prior to promoting to the Chief ranks, his specialties were fire department truck company operations, training, all urban search & rescue specialties, aircraft rescue and firefighting, community risk reduction efforts, CERT and Engine Company level fire prevention details. Chief Nigg has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Arizona State University and a Masters of Science Degree in Emergency Services Administration from California State University, Long Beach, emphasizing in municipal emergency service delivery and emergency management. Chief Nigg is also a certified Company and Chief Fire Officer by the California Office of the State Fire Marshal. Chief Nigg and his wife Cassie were married in 2018 and enjoy their down time together at home when they’re able to or look to get away to a good travel destination as often as possible. In his free time, you can find Chief Nigg golfing, paddle-boarding, running, scuba diving or piloting airplanes and helicopters around the Southern California area and beyond.
Peter Salgado, Fire Protection Analyst
Peter Salgado has almost 13 years of experience in Fire Prevention. He started working in 2005 as a Volunteer Inspector for Garden Grove Fire Department. Soon after, he worked for Los Angeles County Fire Department, Monterey Park Fire Department and the last 10 years for Brea Fire Department. He currently holds the position of Fire Protection Analyst and is responsible for plan review, new construction and fire protection system inspections; as well as code interpretation.
Nicole Pesqueira, Fire Prevention Specialist II
Nicole Pesqueira has worked in the fire service for over 10 years working for Orange City Fire, Pasadena Fire, and now in her current role at the Brea Fire Department. Nicole is responsible for annual fire life safety inspections, special event inspections, candle/open flame permits, complaint inspections, 850 form clearance inspections (RCFE, daycares, etc.), and public education. She served on the Orange County Fire Prevention Officers’ board and is now Past President. She is currently the Fire Prevention Liaison and Roundtable Coordinator for CCAI, Co-Chair for the Southern California Fire Prevention Officers’ Association Fire Service Education Committee, and Secretary for the Southern California Fire Prevention Officers’ Association Executive Board. Nicole holds certifications as a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator, Fire Inspector 1 & 2, Plans Examiner, and Hazardous Materials Technician.
Ron Aristondo, Fire Prevention Specialist I
Ron Aristondo began his career with Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) in March of 2010 as a Volunteer Firefighter. He was hired shortly thereafter as a New Construction Inspector with Orange County Fire Authority. He also worked for Fullerton Fire Department as a Fire Inspector. Ron is responsible for annual fire life safety inspections, weed abatement, complaint inspections, and new construction inspections.
