Arovista Park

The City of Brea is embarking on a modernization of a 30+ year old park in its historic south Brea neighborhood. With key pedestrian connections to the downtown via the Tracks at Brea trail system, and adjacency to the Brea Senior Center, Brea Creek Golf Course and local schools, this 14-acre site serves as a primary location for multi-generational recreational uses for the community. The City is also looking to add to this site the first all-accessible playground in North Orange County which will provide an opportunity for children and adults of all ages and all abilities to have a safe space to play and enjoy the outdoors.

At their February 7, 2023, meeting, the Brea City Council approved the below concept plans as presented. These concept plans were developed following a year of extensive community engagement and prioritization by Brea’s Parks, Recreation and Human Services Commission.

Highlights of the park modernization include:

• A reimagined and all-accessible playground. This upgraded amenity aims to incorporate multi-sensory features that will excite the minds of users of all ages and abilities. The proposed footprint of the new playground will be over three-times the size of the park’s existing play area.
• Four new pickleball courts – the Brea community has been calling for facilities to take part in this thrilling new sport for active adults.
• Upgrades to the Tracks at Brea trail segment that resides in this park facility to mirror the rest of the 4.1 mile, cross-town system, including upgrading to a dual-tread trail, and the addition of complementary trail amenities.
• A new outdoor events space to host future family film nights, concerts in the park, and more.
• Upgrades to the existing baseball fields; soccer field; basketball and volleyball courts; restrooms; and parking lots.
• A revitalized Jubilee Grove made up of 75 trees planted in honor of Brea’s 75th anniversary celebrated in 1992.

City staff have worked in recent months to secure funding through the State of California’s Parks and Water Bond Act of 2018 (Proposition 68), Orange County Supervisor Doug Chaffee’s office, and others for this “legacy” project. Inclusive of City sources, $10.5 million has been funded to date.
